When I started taking photos, my biggest influence was a book called The Americans by Robert Frank. There’s a certain energy, and a certain way that he’s able to capture people in a specific time and place that has inspired me more than anything else I’ve encountered thus far. It’s what made me want to shoot streetstyle before I knew who Tommy Ton and Scott Schuman were. I try to live up to that with every project I do, maybe with a dash of Fear & Loathing, for youths sake.
My goal here is to show a different side of fashion week, that street style doesn’t show. I see myself somewhat removed from the industry, so I tend to look at things differently. There’s also a lot of things I’m privy to that most people don’t normally get to see. So, why not? Move confidently into their midst.
This is the first part of a series I’ll be doing for GQ, each fashion week. Shot on rolls of black & white, I’ll be dropping a roll worth of photos from every week. Its not often that I get really excited about my own work, but I think this is going to be really fucking good, you guys.
